Nevada legalized casino gambling in 1931, the first US state to do so — making it the historical center of American poker. Commercial casinos dominate the gaming landscape here; tribal gaming has only a minor footprint compared to neighboring states like California and Arizona.

The Las Vegas Strip is the global epicenter of high-stakes live poker. Bellagio's high-limit cash room — long known as "Bobby's Room" — has hosted some of the largest mixed-game and no-limit hold'em sessions in poker history. Aria, Wynn, and the Venetian round out the Strip's high-volume rooms; all run daily $1/$3 and $2/$5 no-limit hold'em, with $5/$10 and higher games available at Bellagio and Aria most nights.

The World Series of Poker has run annually since 1970 — at Binion's Horseshoe through 2004, the Rio from 2005 to 2021, and Horseshoe Las Vegas + Paris since 2022. The Main Event runs every June-July; bracelet events span roughly seven weeks each summer. Major series outside the WSOP window include the WPT Five Diamond Classic at Bellagio every December, Aria's PokerGO Tour high-roller calendar, and Wynn's Signature Series.

Reno hosts a smaller but established scene. Atlantis Casino is the regional anchor, drawing tournament traffic with its Atlantis Open Poker Series; downtown Reno properties round out the local circuit. Stakes are generally lower than the Strip, and rooms tend to spread $1/$2 and $2/$5 cash with weekend tournaments.
